It's not the public responses to filmographic requests that are objectionable.
Ben is right: others may be interested in a particular category.
What I find objectionable is the way these requests trigger "stream of
consciousness" responses and personal musings that are not appropriate
to a list devoted to the >>study<< of film. Lists like CINEMA-L are
available for folks who want to utter their personal, unsubstantiated,
uncritical, uninteresting opinions. Or they might try the local tavern
or dorm lounge or pizza parlor.
