Subject: Reciting Stendhal

Dear Colleagues,

A member of my department is writing on Stendhal's _The Red and
the Black_. He has a memory of a movie, about American politics
he thinks, in which an old Southern Senator has memorized the
book in French. When the Senator goes crazy at the end, he is
hauled away reciting passages from the book. Needless to say, my
colleague can't remember anything else about the movie. Does
this ring any bells with anyone?

Thanks for your help.

Krin
