To all interested in this concept:
 
An really neat book that deals (partially) with this notion of male gaze is
Carol Clover's _Men, Women and Chainsaws_.  Clover trashes Mulvey's argument
about an essentially constructed "male gaze".  Specifically, Clover looks at
how horror films work in the construction and represetation of gender.
