Call for Papers:
Special Edition of Media International Australia (MIA) on The
Documentary.
Editors: Maree Delofski and Jane MIlls (Australian Film,Television
and Radio School) Editorial Consultant: Prof. Elizabeth Jacka
(University of Technology, Sydney)
A special documentary edition of Media International Australia (MIA)
focusing on documentary will be published in November 1996.
Documentary filmmakers, theorists, critics and media analysts are
invited to explore issues raised in debates about the form currently
taking place. The following list is an indication of some early
discussions between the editors and potential contributors:
* New technology and the documentary: updates of current trends in
technology and multimedia and their impact on style and
content
* The role of the documentary filmmaker in multimedia production
* Designing the documentary: Does the 'deco doc' mean a further
retreat from truth and reality
* The observational film - is it time the fly-on-the-wall was swatted?
* Women documentary filmmakers - in the 70s women and the documentary
went together like a horse and carriage. Do they still present a
different perspective?
* Video diaries: home movies
* Visual anthropology; imperialism, colonialism and the post-colonial
response
* Infotainment - death to documentary?
* Whose voice is it anyway? An examination of point of view and the
function of the narrator
* Audience success of films in which the line between "fact" and
"fiction" is consciously blurred
* The best of debates and papers from recent and forthcoming
documentary festivals and conferences (Melbourne, Sheffield,
Amsterdam, Flaherty Seminar etc)
This list,of course,is not conclusive and the editors look forward to
receiving a wide range of ideas and proposals for articles which will
make for an exciting and original edition.
Potential contributors please note:
Deadline for one paragraph article proposals is 23 November 1995.
