Jay Leyda and Herbert Marshall (not the actor) were westerners who studied
at the Moscow Film School during the time that Eisenstein taught there.
 
They both became faculty members at US universities and both have
written about Eisenstein.
 
Sorry I don't have any specific cites; most university libraries
likely have something by either or both.
