I haven't seen anyone mention the British sitcoms
written by Carla Lane (Butterflies starring Wendy
Craig, etc.). I'm not very familiar with them but
weren't they rather more sentimental.
By the way, the Home Guard sit com was Dad's Army.
Still shown frequently on British tv.
