*“Thoughtful Branding for Your Thinking: Writing and Publishing Op-Eds and
Essays on Celebrities in the Media”*
This 4-hour event will include 2-hours of discussion, exercises, and both
small-group and full-workshop discussions. Participants should leave with
one or more action plans for essays they can write, and how they can
publish those essays.

Finding ideas – current, constant, controversy, counter-intuitive,
commonplace

speaking

Exercise: come up with one or more ideas for an op-ed or essay; write
premise/pitch

Meet in small groups to discuss

Timothy Harper is a longtime journalist and author who has written a dozen
books and helped many other people write and publish their books. Tim has
also written more than 1,000 articles, including essays and op-eds, in
publications as varied as Atlantic Monthly and airline magazines. He has
taught at NYU's and Columbia's graduate schools of journalism, and is now a
visiting professor and writing coach at the CUNY Graduate School of
Journalism. A lawyer, he is a member of the First Amendment Committee for
the American Association of Journalists and Authors, for whom he leads
panel discussions and workshops on reporting, writing and publishing. For
