These newspaper/periodical rankings of film schools are about film and
media production, not criticism, theory, history, and politics. Of course,
the Schools mentioned frequently offer classes in such topics, as omnibus
survey courses provided by scholarly departments to production students.

Folks interested in graduate study in screen studies in the United States
in a scholarly/political form are best advised, in my opinion, to visit the
web sites of the research universities that offer doctorates in the area
and simply compare the books written by the Faculty. Plus look at the last
five years of publications in key journals (say, Cinema Journal, Journal of
Communication, Critical Studies in Mass Communication, Cultural Studies,
Social Text, Public Culture, Socialist Review, differences, camera obscura)
and the key conferences (Society for Cinema Studies, International
Communication Association, National Communication Association,
International Association for Mass Communication Research, Society for
Visual Anthropology) to see what the key debates are. You can find many
relevant web addresses at http://www.blackwellpublishers.co.uk/cultural/
