John Singleton's lamented second effort POETIC JUSTICE, featured Janet
Jackson as a young hairdresser/poet. Poetry was supplied by Maya Angelou.
SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE certainly featured a few of the bard's sonnets.
SLAM, which won at Sundance last year, is I believe about a young black
ex-con rediscovering himself in the DC poetry slam scene. (It's available
at Blockbuster).
Also, I just saw THE LOVE LETTER, in which the aforementioned letter
reads much like a poem and is repeated over and over again by its
different readers.
