The annual Society for Cinema Studies conference is fast approaching--April
15-18, 1999. This year's special focus is "Media Industries: Past, Present
In anticipation of the gathering in West Palm Beach, Florida, we've placed
a number of resources on the SCS Website--all of which may be accessed
through the main conference Web page:
1. Online Bulletin Boards (forums, newsgroups, etc.).
Are you looking for a roommate? Would you like to distribute part (or all)
of your paper ahead of time? Are you interested in making illustrations
available online? Are there workshop materials that need to get into SCS
members hands BEFORE the workshop begins? Have you yourself created
Website materials pertinent to your presentation that you'd like to
announce and link to?
Our online bulletin boards facilitate all of these activities and also
permit general discussion about the conference (programming concerns,
getting around West Palm Beach, etc.). Users may post materials--including
file attachments--and have them IMMEDIATELY available.
Incidentally, no special software is required to use these bulletin boards.
All you need is a standard Web browser.
The online bulletin boards will also be available after the conference is
concluded. A posteriori comments or further elaborations on one's
presentation would be appropriate here.
2. Information About West Palm Beach and the Conference Hotel.
An illustrated tour of West Palm Beach and South Florida attractions
provides information on extracurricular activities in the area--including
Butterfly World, Spongearama, Flipper's Grave, and the Herbert Hoover Dike
System. Current weather, travel instructions and maps, hotel contact and
airport transportation information are all easily accessible.
Plus, there are excerpts from Preston Sturges's documentary about the area:
THE PALM BEACH STORY!
3. The Conference Program.
The entire *preliminary* program is available--subject to changes announced
at the conference. It may be printed or searched online.
4. Critical Forms.
