Laurence Alfonsi wrote a PhD thesis (I believe) in Marseilles, France a
couple of years ago on "The Reception of Francois Truffaut Abroad". He
focused mainly on the reception in America, but there might be something in
it helpful to
you; Truffaut was an assiduous marketer of his films, traveling abroad
frequently and often corresponding with critics and reviewers around the
world.
