CALL FOR PAPERS
Recent media coverage suggests that there is a shift in focus from
Generation X to "Generation Next" or "Generation Y." Some commentators
have noted that filmmakers who have been traditionally deemed GenX
filmmakers are moving on to projects which do not focus specifically on
the generation. Maybe, maybe not.
_Post Script_ is calling for contributions to a special issue on
"Generation X film and filmmakers." Possible topics may include, but
are not limited to: representations of gender in GenX films; GenX
film as a genre; minority representation in GenX films; the shift from GenX
as subject in the early and mid 1980s to films and filmmakers in the 1980s
and 1990s; comparative generational studies examining Generation X and past
generations related to film studies; and the role of Generation X
filmmakers in both the Hollywood and independent film industries.
While the primary focus of this issue will be American Generation X films,
papers on applicable international films will be considered as well.
Substantive interviews with gen-x filmmakers and book reviews (up to 1,000
words) are invited.
Submissions should be previously unpublished, no longer than 24 pages,
double-spaced, including documentation (MLA preferred). Submit three copies
of your manuscript. Include a SASE for return of manuscripts, should that
be necessary.
Deadline: February 1, 1999
