Empire State Exhibitions- International Idependent Film Festival, 1998
Dates
This year's Exhibitions will be screened between September 7 and
October 4. Sites include Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca, Utica,
Little Falls, Saratoga Springs, Albany, Rhinebeck and Manhattan.
Categories
Film entries are considered in the following categories: Narrative
Feature, Narrative Short, Documentary, Experimental, Animation.
Video entries are considered in the following categories: Narrative Video,
Documentary, Vidoe, Experimental Video.
Consideration and Awards
All submited films and videos will be viewed by a preliminary
screening committee. Works chosen to participate in the festival will
compete for prizes awarded by a panel of judges. 1997 judges included
cinematographer Roger Deakins, writer Liz Winstead, agent and manager
Chris Bender, and Oscar winning composer Joer Renzetti. The
Exihibitions reserves the right to bestow additional awards and to
rule on cases not foreseen by these regulations.
All Submissions
* Feature-length films and videos must be no less than sixty
minutes. Running time is calculated by timming the head frame to the
last frame of the ending credits.
* All entries must be in the English language or subtitled in the
English language.
* All entries must have been completed after April 1st, 1997.
* General Information and Application may be photocopied and
distributed.
Films
* Films must be made available for festival presentation in 16mm or
35mm"composite" condition with optical soundtrack and titles
included. Films requiring dual projection (interlock) will not be
accetped.
* To be considered for the festival, feature films can not have had a
major theatrical release or a national broadcast before August 31,
1998.
* No film initiated, produced or primarily funded by a major motion
picture studio is eligible for the competition. However any film
conforming to the above guidlines and purchased by a studio after
competition is eligible.
Videos
*Videos are considered works that originate on video. Works created
on video will be considered in video categories only, even if the
screening format is film.
* Regardless of original format, videos must be made available for
festival presentation in 1/2" VHS (NTSC) format.
Submissions
Submission must be postmarked by Saturday, July 11th, 1998.
All fees must be in U.S funds.
(international money orders strongly suggested for foreign
submissions- no persoal checks, please)
The entry fee for features is fity fivedollars ($55)
The entry fee for shorts is thirty five dollars ($35)
For the students with current ID and members of FVA and IFP(enclose
proof of ID)
The entry fee for features is fity dollars ($50)
The entry fee for shorts is thirty dollars ($30)
*All entries must be submitted for preview on 1/2" VHS (NTSC)
videocassette.Foreign submissions please be advised that NTSC
format for video is REQUIRED.
*All entires must be sent prepaid and packed in proper containers (no
fiber-filled envelopes-they may cause damage to videocassette).
*Make all checks and money orders payable to: Empire State
Exhibitions.
