We have a film society at the Indian Institute of Science that screens
films from all over the world twice or thrice a month. The films generally
are from the 16 mm archives at Bangalore. We also have an
arrangement with the Film federation of India by virtue of which we get
occasional packages of foreign films that go round the country and in
course of time come to us so that we can screen them for our members.
The problem with this arrangement is that we have no prior information
about the films and it has often turned out that the packages sent
contain films of very poor quality. We again have been offered a package
of five German films. Is there anybody on this list who has something to
offer about one or more of the films and/or their directors? The films
are as follows:
1)We can do otherwise --dir. Detlev Buck
2)The Wismut--dir. Volker Koepp
3)Waller's Last Round-dir. Christian Wagner
4)The Summer of the Falcon--dir. Arend Aghte
5)Mailna--dir. Werner Schroter
We have the choice of screening Ivan's Childhood (Tarkovsky) and Ikiru
(Kurosawa) if we donot screen these. So an opinion about the German films
'weighed' against the possible alternative (what a preposterous demand!!)
would be very helpful.
Thanks.
Sumit
