The "International Independent Award of Mannheim-Heidelberg"
 
The International Competition is the focus of attention of the annual
festival. Films of all genres and of all lengths are admitted. But
only films by newcomers from all over the globe- for the most,
internationlly still unknown directors- may enter the competition.
These are films with a very personal, new and creative signature.
Mannheim-Heidelberg discovers up-and-coming stars, every year anew.
An independent international jury will award the following prizes.
 
"International Independent Award",category "Best Fiction" (DM30.000),
"Best Documentary" (DM10.000), "Best Shortfilm" (DM 5.000)
"Special Prize in Memoriam Rainer Werner Fassbinder", (DM10.000)
"Special Award of the Jury" (DM 5.000)
 
In addition the Festival audience votes for the "Audience Prize". the
film most appreciated.
