For your info - 'THE NEW STATESMAN' was shown in Australia on the
Seven commercial network in a very haphazard programming format.
Episodes were mixed from different series, timeslots were changed
without warning, the show would disappear for several weeks then
reappear as a filler between live sporting telecasts etc.
I think Channel Seven had hoped that the "YOUNG ONES" audience would
search it out, and word of mouth would create a similar cult
following. Unfortunately it was never to be. ("THE YOUNG ONES"
featuring Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondsen and Nigel Planer had become
one of the most popular Brit sitcoms shown over here in recent
memory).
On the other subject of translating comedy series, it is tempting to
conjecture what the US would make of shows from the Comic Strip/Young
Ones/Alexsie Sayle stable. A tad too scatalogical methinks...
cheers from Oz
