in the tennis match that closes BLOW-UP, we see tennis played without a ball,
but we hear the ball . . . ok . . . now, which is the truth, which is the lie,
who is telling the lie, and how do we know? . . . assuming that this film is
a good example of an image track that lies, what is the "reality" that is being
misrepresented??
. . . and what are the rules of the convention governing this sequence?
my own best guess is that the sequence is NOT answerable to a convention that
privileges sound over image, but rather that it radically questions all
conventions while anchored in none . . . [what??!!, none?? . . . well, hardly
any]
