THE STYLE CONFERENCE
JULY 25-28, 1997 BOWLING GREEN, OHIO
Where does style come from? How and why does style change?
How is style performed? Embodied? Subverted? Sold? Appropriated?
Commodified?
We invite a variety of material, cultural, and discursive experiences
including academic and non-academic approaches. Proposals are
welcomed in any format: individual papers, preconstituted sessions,
workshops, roundtables, film and video, performance, multimedia
presentations, personal accounts.
SUGGESTED TOPIC AREAS: Theorizing style: pleasures and dangers, age
and generation, styling desire, performing style, body modification,
fashion/fun/guilt, queer looks, cash flows, street style, designs for
living, extreme fashion, academic style, virtual style.
DEADLINE FOR 250 WORD PROPOSALS:
December 1, 1996.
