Subject: U-G Major in Film and Lit
I send seasonal greetings to my colleagues on H-Film and Screen-L
as I ask for some help. As you may have read in your copy of the
NY Times, the mad-slasher who is governor of New York is hacking
away at budgets for the State University at the same time that we
are being asked to create programs that will attract more
undergraduates. At Stony Brook, we have never had sufficient
staff to run a real film studies major, but with many of our
"traditional" programs in language and literature now in danger
of being retrenched or consolidated, some of us are thinking of
proposing an undergrad major that combines film studies with
literary studies.
I would be very interested in finding out if other schools have a
major in film and literature. Does anyone out there teach in
such a program or know someone who does? If so, how is it
administered? What courses are required? Is there some
structure to the requirements? Any other information would be
greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for anything you might send my way.
All the best,
Krin Gabbard
