What should be used as the most authoritative source for titles? For
books it's the title page and along that line I would generally say the
opening credit for a film should be considered the actual title. Two
recent films bring up the problem with this. In Batman Forever the
title credit has the Batman logo and the word "forever"; nowhere in the
opening or closing credits does the word "batman" appear. And for
Seven the title appears on screen as "Se7en". Does anybody else care
about this? Gary Giddins in a recent issue of the Village Voice
claimed that discographers care more about false starts than their own
children but he's not entirely unsympathetic. Lang Thompson
