Along with Harding's "athleticism" and Kerrigan's "grace" comes mediated ideas
about the sexuality of each woman: Harding the "whore" (whose wedding-day
striptease was videoed by her husband and now sold to the pages of some
tabloid--not to mention the overly "revealing" costume she wore at the
National competition which got a lot of press), Kerrigan the "virgin".
This is most upsetting to me when you conflate it with the other labels
plastered onto each woman by the media. Harding is the working class,
bad-mouthed, strong willed, sexual female, ie. a tramp/vamp. Kerrigan is
. . . you can fill in the blanks. One is to be feared, one protected.
