For material on the family, see recent (since early '70s) work on
melodrama. One place to start would be:
Christine Gledhill, ed., HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS (London: British

This anthology includes several key essays, including Thomas
Elsaesser's "Tales of Sound and Fury".
