Martin, this may be slightly off-topic, but I saw a terrifically funny
and hard-hitting 11 minute film called "Wholes" by Cecilio Neto, a Brazilian
filmmaker from Sao Paulo. It's about potholes, in a sense, but it's also
about urban crime, ineffectual government, and the decay and decline of
civilization in the great megacities that are metastasizing around the world --
places like Mexico City, Calcutta, Sao Paulo. Very witty black humor -- it
winds up underground in the sewers with a baby rat telling his mother he saw
an angel -- a bat.
This was made for a British TV series called "South" -- can't remember if
it was Channel Four or BBC. The production company is: CN Cine, R. Pedro &
Sourz, Campos F 143, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Tel. 55/11/8727895, FAX uses same #.
