Here a few more law films (sorry if I'm repeating any that have been
A FREE SOUL (1931) -- Lionel Barrymore won an Oscar for his role in
this film, and Norma Shearer was also nominated.
GUILTY BY SUSPICION (1991) / THE FRONT (1976) -- Two films about
McCarthyism in the entertainment industry, featuring testimony before HUAC
GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (1953) -- Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe
are forced to defend themselves against a charge of stealing a girl's best
MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN (1936) -- Gary Cooper is put on trial to
determine whether he was sane when he gave away millions of dollars.
JUDGE PRIEST (1934) / THE SUN SHINES BRIGHT (1954) -- Two versions
of the same story, concerning a small-town judge, both directed by John Ford.
The Sun Shines Bright was Ford's favorite of all his films.
REMEMBER THE NIGHT (1940) -- Wonderful sentimental drama written by
Preston Sturges about a D.A. who takes an alleged thief (Barbara Stanwyck)
home with him for Christmas. (I don't think this one's on tape, though.)
THE PARADINE CASE (1948) -- Minor Hitchcock effort starring Gregory
Peck. Written by David O. Selznick.
THE DEVIL AND DANIEL WEBSTER (1941) -- Great film about Daniel Webster
battling the Devil (terrific performance by Walter Huston) in court for the soul
of a man.
