wow.
i must say Little Man Tate is brilliant.
i was able to sit in on a free preview,
and i am a self proclaimed jodie foster enemy,
BUT the girl can direct.
Scott Frank wrote a screenplay that is nothing
short of brilliant in and of itself.
but jodie DID something with it and did it damn well.
AND she actually plays a strong female character in this one!
sorry folks, lets not start an arguing war.
theres no convincing me.
all her other roles were played well,
they were just not very strong characters when you look closely.
until her character Dede, in this film.
in my oh so very humble opinion (IMOSVHO)
she rants about how feminist her roles are,
when to me , they are nothing but naive and
vulnerable then angry.
ANYWAYS>>>>> see Little Man Tate.
you WONT be disappointed.
here's a little ad blurb for the film:
When Fred Tate was a year old he could read.
At four he wrote poetry.
[excuse me please but let me just say this is reminding
me a whole lot of Milan Kundera's book "Life is Elsewhere"
somebody read it and see this film and tell me im not crazy]
Today he paints murals in oils and in water, plays piano at
competition level and solves mathematical equations of dazzling
intricacy. His artistic and scientific brilliance is matched by
an acute sensitivity to the complex emotions in the world that
surrounds him. Today Fred is seven years old.
Marking the directing debut of Oscar-winning actress
Jodie Foster, Orion Picture's "Little Man Tate" tells the
story of Fred TAte. Fred's life is greatly affected by the
relationship he shares with two women: his working class mother
(jodie foster) and a brilliant child psychologist (diane wiest),
both of whom have conflicting ideas of where his best interests lie.
Orion pictures presents a Jodie Foster film, "Little Man Tate",
starring Jodie Foster, Diane Wiest and Harry Connick Jr, along
with new comer Adam Hann-Byrd as Fred Tate.

Screenplay: Scott Frank
