 Description 
 The University of Texas at Austin Department of Radio-Television-Film, in conjunction with the Center for Sports Communication & Media, seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position in “Sports, Media and Culture,” at the rank of assistant professor beginning Fall 2019. We are interested in applicants who bring a critical focus to the study of the intersection of sports and media in society. Scholars whose work in sports and media also addresses issues of identity, representation (gender and sexuality, race, ethnicity and class), politics and/or global media are especially encouraged to apply.The RTF department offers a broad range of courses in media studies and media arts leading to the B.S., M.A., M.F.A, and Ph.D. degrees. Scholarship and coursework in RTF’s Media Studies Program examine  the central role of media in culture, society, the arts, and politics, within historical as well as diverse local, regional, national, and global contexts. RTF also has the benefit of innovative collaborations across one of the largest, most comprehensive communication colleges in the country. RTF has approximately 1,150 undergraduate students, 160 graduate students, and 50 full- and part time faculty. Learn more about the Department at: https://rtf.utexas.edu/.The Center for Sports Communication & Media is dedicated to the instruction, practice, and study of sports journalism, broadcasting, media production, advertising, public relations, interpersonal communication, rhetorical analysis, and more.  The Center houses the Moody College of Communication’s minor in sports media; sponsors the Dan Jenkins Medal for Excellence in Sportswriting, the McGarr Symposium on Sports and Society, and the Frank Deford Lecture in Sports Journalism; facilitates lectures and film screenings; connects faculty affiliates and graduate students across multiple disciplines, and allows students to develop skills, build their professional networks, and find internship and career opportunities.  Learn more about the Center at: https://moody.utexas.edu/centers/sports-communication-media.     
 Qualifications 
 A PhD in media studies or a related field is preferred, with a strong record in publishing and teaching, and with experience supervising advanced graduate and undergraduate students. The person hired will teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels related to the applicant’s areas of research specialization, and will also participate in teaching the Department’s core curricula.  Salary commensurate with experience.
