POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:  Chair, Department of Cinema & Photography

RANK:	Full or Associate Professor

APPOINTMENT DATE:  July 1, 2006

SALARY:	Competitive

QUALIFICATIONS:  Terminal degree (Ph.D. or M.F.A.) in media studies, film,
photography or related field. Professor or Associate Professor, rank and
salary commensurate with credentials. Record of effective teaching,
significant research/creative activity, and relevant academic
administrative experience required.

DUTIES:  The Chair is responsible for the development and coordination of
the teaching, research, and service programs of the Department. These
duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Intellectual and creative leadership of the Department;
2. Active engagement in teaching and research/creative activity;
3. Recruitment, development, and evaluation of faculty and staff;
4. Commitment to building a climate of diversity in all aspects of the
Department;
5. Academic program development;
6. Representing the Department's programs and faculty to various
constituencies;
7. Coordinating and enhancing the Department's grant activities;
8. Alumni relations;
9. Fiscal management and administration.

THE DEPARTMENT:  The Department of Cinema and Photography offers courses in
the history, theory, criticism, and production of cinema, photography, and
related media.  Our educational orientation embodies a holistic
understanding of media based in the fine arts and humanities. We are
committed to graduating critical, original, and socially responsible
artists and scholars who, as global citizens, can imagine and produce
alternatives in media theory and practice. The Department has 13 full-time
faculty with approximately 350 undergraduate majors and participates in the
Masters, MFA, and Doctoral programs housed at the College level. The
University enrollment at the Carbondale campus is 22,000. Additional
