The appointee will contribute to the Media Studies programme and have
specialist and scholarly interest in media practice and screen
production, and have the ability to contribute to core areas in the
curriculum.

Position Overview: 
 The inter-disciplinary School of Social and Cultural Studies at the
Albany campus, Auckland, is expanding its offerings in the Bachelor of
Arts and Bachelor of Communication within a dynamic teaching and
research environment. Applications are invited for the position of
Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the Media Studies programme. 

The appointee will contribute both theoretical and applied knowledge of
media practice and screen production and will contribute to the teaching
of core Media Studies papers at the undergraduate level. Industry
experience would be an advantage but is not essential. The appointee
will have an opportunity to develop her/his own area(s) of
specialisation and will contribute to the further development of the
School's masterate and doctoral programmes. 

Applicants should have a completed relevant PhD (or be close to
completion). A good publication record and the ability to supervise
postgraduate research is desirable but applications are also encouraged
from promising scholars. 


Job Description:   
Purpose Statement: To effectively teach and conduct research and
administrative duties in the Media Studies programme. 
Responsible To Head of School 
Key Accountability Areas: Teaching/Supervision 

1. Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. 
2. Develop and teach major curriculum components of courses. 
3. Coordinate and administer the teaching of subjects. 
4. Supervise the research activities of graduate and undergraduate
students and assist in the supervision of students/research projects at
postgraduate level. 

5. Undertake continuing personal and professional development. 
6. Contribute to the School's multi-disciplinary teaching programme as
appropriate. 

Research 

1. Undertake an active, appropriate and viable personal research
programme and/or participate in team-based research. 
2. Publish papers or other scholarly works in academic journals, review
papers and other appropriate medium. 
3. Present research and act as a discussant at academic conferences. 
4. Generate research funding. 

Service to the Community 

1. Participate in community service activities that further advance the
discipline and the School and which are consistent with the University's
Charter and Profile. 

2. Assist the School to develop an environment which gives effect to the
obligations of the Treaty of Waitangi. 

University Responsibilities 

1. Serve on University and/or College/School committees. 
2. Ensure the observance of University policy and codes of practice in
all teaching, research, community service and administrative practices. 

3. Contribute to the development of an effective School working
environment of teamwork and cooperation. 
4. Work within University administrative guidelines, requirements and
timetables.

Person Specification:   
Qualifications Relevant PhD (or close to completion). 
Experience Industry experience an advantage but not essential. 
A recognised publication record and previous university teaching
experience. 
Attributes and Skills Demonstrated teaching and research expertise. 
Flexibility, enthusiasm and a student-centred approach to learning in a
multi-cultural environment. 
Ability to contribute to other programmes within the School.
