University of Canberra, Australia

Professor, Creative Communication

 Reference No. 04/2066
Package of $125,000 pa including superannuation and generous employment

The School of Creative Communication offers undergraduate and postgraduate
programs in New Media, Television Production, Creative Writing and Literary
Studies, and staff are active in contributing to broader areas of cultural
studies which link several programs in the Division of Communication and
Education. At the undergraduate level Bachelor of Communication degrees in
Creative Writing and Media are complemented by a flexible BA, while at
postgraduate level there is a vibrant research culture among students in PhD
and Master of Arts in Communication programs. A well-developed and growing
honours program is expected to continue to strengthen this culture,
particularly in creative research. Fully online Masters by Coursework
degrees are also offered in Creative Writing and New Media, and subjects in
these courses contribute to similar degrees elsewhere in the Division.

The School now wishes to make a new senior staff appointment to realise
opportunities for cross-fertilisation between its disciplines, and to
further enhance research and publication culture. The successful applicant
will have a PhD and a significant national and international reputation as
well as a substantial publication record and a demonstrated capacity to
attract research funding. A multi-disciplinary outlook and approach is
essential, and the background of a successful applicant is likely to include
formal studies and creative work in media studies, creative writing
including new media and screen-based writing, film and cultural studies, and
critical theory. Other relevant disciplines would include creative audio
production and theory, media design, cognitive science, and conceptual and
information arts. This is a full-time continuing position.
