Film & History Conference on the American Wests in Film, TV, and History
Kansas City Marriott, Kansas City, MO
November 7-10, 2002 (Proposal due 15 August at latest.)

Please join the Film & History Journal for its annual conference in Kansas
City and consider giving a presentation on General George A. Custer in film
and history. This is a rich subject that has spawned over a hundred films,
serials, TV programs, and documentaries.
Here are suggestions to consider:
-Custer's transition from hero to villain after World War II
-Depictions of Mrs. Custer
-Historical accuracy in portrayals of the Battle of the Big Horn
-Portrayals of other army officers such as Reno
-D. W. Griffith's "The Massacre"
-Custer as a minor character in films like "The Scarlet West"
-Sitting Bull
-Satires of Custer and the battle
-Ronald Reagan plays Custer "Santa Fe Trail"
-Errol Flynn as Custer "They Died with Their Boots On"
-Custer insane? "Little Big Man"
-The French approach to Custer "Touche Pas La Feme Blanche"
-Science fiction treatments of the Last Stand
-Custer's TV cameos
-TV Documentaries
The 2002 meeting of the Film & History Society will be at the Kansas City
Marriott, Country Club Plaza, next door to the Kansas City Arts Institute.
Special events are planned for the meeting. For details about the meeting,

deadline for proposals is 15 August 2002.
