CALL FOR PAPERS

"Nuns, Whores, and Wives in Cinema"
MLA Special Session Panel
New York, December 27 -30, 2002

Proposals due March 20, 2002

This panel invites papers that explore the attempted institutionalization
of women's identities and sexuality, and their visual representation
(sexualization, prohibition, voyeurism, punishment). In many cases, these
institutionalized identities in cinema follow set stereotypes or become
confused when entangled with various desires. Wives get sold as whores, the
convent turns into a brothel, the prostitute or raped woman finds
redemption through marriage, etc. Please send a 500-word abstract and cv
to [log in to unmask]
