Hello:

Well, I have done some work with Oscar ballot people and it seems a bit like
high school, where groups decide who will fit in what category. For example
there is some buzz that Steven Soderberg prefers his nomination from Traffic
to Brockovich. So if you want him to win you don't waste the vote on
Brockovich.

The WGA and specific guilds tend to be more serious and the Oscars tend to be
about placement. Why else would Gladiator win Best Picture, except the myth
of film size and the spectacular as Best Pictures.
