Phenomenology and Hermeneutics

Hi,

I would like to introduce myself. I am a recent graduate
from Simon Fraser University's Department of Communication
where I received an MA. My thesis involved a critique of two
methodologies employed in examining the meaning-structures articulated
in film sound tracks: one I referred to as a "marxist-psychoanalytic"
approach and the other a "phenomenological" approach. I maintained
that a synthesis of the two approaches was possible and I grounded
that synthesis on Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic method.

I would like to correspond with scholars in communication studies who are
investigating phenomenological methodologies used in understanding how
audiences interpret media texts (such as films, television, and
advertising).

I am especially interested in any work done in this area which involves
reference to Frege (such as the concepts of _Sinn_ and _Bedeutung_),
Wittgenstein (semantic holism), or Paul Ricoeur (the synthesis of
structuralism and phenomenology).

Since this is probably a rather obscure area of interest I would also
appreciate any pointers to those scholars who may not be on the net
that may be interested in corresponding with me.

Thanks.
