"Il etait une fois un pays." A Belgrade, pendant la seconde guerre
mondiale, Marko cache dans sa cave son ami Blacky et un groupe de
resistants qui y fabriquent des armes. Vingt ans durant, afin de garder
pour lui seul la belle Natalija et le benefice du trafic d'armes, Marko
manipule et fait croire a ses "proteges" que la guerre continue. Il
deviendra l'une des grandes figures politiques du regime de Tito. en 1991,
Marko et Blacky se retrouvent en guerre dans des camps opposes.

Considere de son vivant comme "le plus mauvais realisateur de tous les
temps", ed Wood fut l'une des figures les plus originales, les plus
emouvantes et les plus pittoresques d'Hollywood. Rejete par le systeme
comme par la critique, il fit toute sa carriere en marge des studios,
deployant des tresors d'astuce et d'energie pour realiser en quatre ou cinq
jours des films sans argent a l'inspiration delirante, pleins d'obscures
propheties, de poesie naive et d'effets burlesques involontaires.
Travailleur infatigable a l'enthousiasme contagieux, il fut peut-etre le
premier cineaste independant de sa generation, et demeure sans aucun doute
le plus inclassable. Sincere, candide et genereux, il fut aussi l'ami et le
fidele soutien de Bela Lugosi dans les dernieres annees de sa vie.
