I am chair of the Internation Communication Association Best Book award
committee and I would like as many nominees as possible. Encourage
authors in media you know to nominate their
books. Tell them they must be members of the ICA.

International Communication Association Best Book Award
(for a book published between 1/1/01 and 12/31/02)

The Best Book Award selection committee will judge submissions on
several criteria, including importance of the problem addressed to the
disciplines
represented in ICA, quality of writing and argument, and quality of
evidence. The committee will consider published book reviews and
reputation of publisher, as well as its own review of the nominated
books. Most often the book selected will be one that is addressed to a
scholarly audience. However, a book meant for a wider audience but which

satisfies the criteria for the prize will also be eligible. The Best
Book Award carries a prize of $250.

Nominator must submit five copies of the book and five copies of the
letter or letters of nomination that indicate the reasons the book
being nominated should receive the award. Nominating letters, at the
minimum, should speak to the importance of the book to the
disciplines represented in ICA, the quality of writing and argument, and

the quality of the evidence. Word limit: 1,200. Also submit, if
available, five copies of any other published evidence of the book's
quality from independent sources, such as reviews.

January 31, 2003, is the nomination deadline for association-wide awards

to be presented at ICA's 2003 annual conference, May 23-27,
in San Diego. Barbie Zelizer, of the U of Pennsylvania, will again serve

as general chair.

Only ICA members may make nominations, and only members are eligible to
receive the award. Members should feel free to nominate themselves as
well as others.

To be considered, nominations and all accompanying materials must be
received at the ICA headquarters office (1730 Rhode Island Ave.
NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC, USA 20036). Please review the
descriptions, criteria, and materials that must be submitted for awards
before making a nomination. Nominators or nominees may be asked for
additional information or materials if the selection committee finds
it necessary.

If you have questions about the criteria or nominating materials for any

of these awards, contact Barbie Zelizer ([log in to unmask]),
general chair of the Awards Committee.
