According to my (rather old) Webster's Dictionary, 'modern' is a noun as
well as an adjective, as in "You old modern, you."  And people speak all
the time about the old and the new, not to mention the good, the bad, and
the ugly--even people who have never heard of Althusser.  So what's wrong
the 'the post-modern'?
