Greetings, friends-- One of the most delightful contemporary American
comedies featuring an unseen central character is Wayne Wang's 1982 *Chan is
Missing.* This very agreeable four-star comedy is a delish' introduction (for
non-Asian Americans) to the humor and values of many urban American Asian
communities. Wang's success with it is all the more remarkable since, I hear,
he shot the film in a few weekends on a tiny budget supplied by a few
friends' VISA cards.
Regards,
Bet MacArthur
