I don't recall whether anyone has mentioned "He's a Woman, She's a Man,"
from Hong Kong (1994 or 1995). It's a comedy about a teenage girl
who is infatuated with a pop music star, Rose. The girl hears that
Rose's boyfriend (a music producer) is holding a star-search for a young
male singer, so she dresses up as a boy, wins the contest, and realizes
her dream of getting closer to her idols. And that's where the comedy
really begins. Very mainstream, shades of Victor/Victoria & Mrs Doubtfire.
