I agree. Especially the first half with R. Lee Ermey as the tyrannical
drillsergeant really shows wartime 'de-humanization' (of course a recurring
theme in Kubrick movies).
Also, the fact that the second half was shot entirely at an abandoned
factory near London adds to Kubrick's craftsmanship (IMHO).
