You might want to look for a book called FEAR OF THE DARK: 'RACE,' GENDER
AND SEXUALITY IN THE CINEMA by Lola Young (Routledge, 1996), for some
ideas. It examines Mona Lisa in depth in terms of representations of black
characters, and especially the portrayal of black female sexuality.

I also know of an essay titled "Of Mestizos and Half-Breeds: Orson Welle's
Touch of Evil" by William Anthony Nericcio in CHICANOS AND FILM:
REPRESENTATION AND RESISTANCE. (ed, Chon Noriega, 1992).

For info on black representation and spectatorship, you may want to look
for bell hooks' books.

The project and choice of films sound really interesting. Good luck.

Mary
