Those of you joining this cry-baby session are no less open-minded for fawning
all over PF than the "others" are for fawning all over Gump. How can you lump
Gump together with Newt Gingrich, the Contract for America, and the demise of
American society?? Sure the reaction to Gump was a bit extreme (no more than
your reaction to PF), but the movie itself certainly isn't in the league of
Newt and his cohorts. In fact, I think if the movie had been made ten years
from now, it would have included a hilarious scene about Gump making his own
Contract, or the like.

I can't help but think that you missed the humor and the irony of the movie.
Gump's naivete about the Vietnam rally was not a plug for conservative America,
but a wrenching reminder of the pain of the generation that was torn apart by
the war. And c'mon, you can't tell me that the Watergate scene in Gump was any
less humorous than the PF's foot massage conversation!

Sure, the Academy's biased and something should be done about it. But piling
your own biases on top of the argument doesn't help.
