This may be a stretch, but Abel Gance tinted the final tryptich of NAPOLEON
in patriotic red, white and blue.
 
I recall striking uses of color in Kurosawa's DODESKADEN, and you might check
the dance sequence from Powell & Pressburger's THE RED SHOES.
 
Bergman used red as "the color of the soul" in CRIES AND WHISPERS.
 
You might also look at the ending of Oshima's CRUEL STORY OF YOUTH, as well
as Tati's PLAYTIME, Antonioni's RED DESERT, Chen Kaige's LIFE ON A STRING,
and Yang Zhimou's JU DOU.
