A still photograph plays a pivotal role, to say the least, in
Henry Hathaway's *Call Northside 777.* Indeed, as when Jimmy Stewart's
reporter character clandestinely photographs police records or when he
directs the camera angle with which a newspaper photographer shoots the
subject of one of Stewart's stories, still photography plays a role
throughout.
