For those of you interested in Claire Denis' work, I've just put up on A
Sharper Focus interpretations of three of her films: Beau Travail (1999, 35
Shots of Rum (2008), and White Material (2009).  I see all three as
developing her  core idea, that we develop our identities not from inside
out but from outside in as a product of body, environment, and community.
