Occasionally on this list, the question, "Where is Terence Malick, and
what is he doing now?" has come up. For those fans of Badlands and
Days of Heaven, here's a little nubbin of rumour.
Buried in an article on Canadian entrepreneur Gerry Schwartz's
undertakings in Hollywood, in the (Toronto) Globe and Mail's
Report on Business Magazine (December 1995 [25 November 1995]),
among future projects of Phoenix Pictures, headed by Mike Medavoy,
lurks Malick ("a Medavoy favourite") as the announced director for
a new adaptation of James Jones's novel, The Thin Red Line.
"What I want to do here with Mike is build a sausage factory that
makes sausages called movies," says Schwartz.
