******  Seems like i saw a gag in some recent comedy:  Wayne's World 2?
 Dumb & Dumber?  Something like that.
 
T&L also seemed to owe a lot to Alain Tanner's Messidor though in
reality i would be much surprised if the filmmakers had even heard of
that one.  And if you want to look for direct antecedents,
"exploitation" films would be a good source.   Such as the Andy Sidaris
films like Picasso Trigger and Hard Ticket to Hawaii featuring a duo of
former Playmates as buddy action heroes.  They are staples on cable.
And i also think it's interesting that Hong Kong films have a long
tradition of female action heroes, even if they're generally part of a
team.  That's one reason that it was surprsing in Tsui Hark's Once Upon
a Time in China films to see Jet Li have to go rescue the heroine who
in most HK films can rescue herself.  (Of course, the character was
European educated and you know how that can mess a person up.)
