Mr. Gordon Byron, how pleasant to hear from the UK today.
It reminds one of the internationality of the net. I didn't
consider the fact that Brits would be reading my comments
about the Queen of England being above criticism "if you're
in England." Yeah, I guess the general impression is that
you Englishmen show great deference to the crown, and especially
to the Queen and the Queen Mother. Not so much the Prince or
Di or Fergie, however. Your Queen visited the U.S. a few years
ago, as I recall, and the mayor of San Diego placed his hand
on her back to guide her through a door. Over here that is
considered gentlemanly conduct. But such a brouhaha resulted
from a commoner actually daring to TOUCH the royal body.
You'd have thought he slapped her or something. So, anyway,
news stories like that tend to build impressions. But thankinbg
thanks for pointing out to me that the Queen is not above some
comic treatment in the tabs over there. Ernie Wyatt, no known
kin to Sir Thomas Wyatt of Kent. I think my English ancestors
were chimneysweeps, but I'm not sure.
