Have you consulted "Psychiatry & Cinema" by Krin Gabbard (University of
Chicago, 1987). It's a readable treatment of the shrink flic phenomenon and
has an excellent filmography. It was very useful in organizing a film/lecture
series at the Pacific Cinematheque last year called "Shrink Rap: Psychaitry &
Cinema".
The films we showed were:
Spellbound - rare example of a female psychiatrist
Bad Timing: A Sensual Obsession
A Fine Madness - Joanne Woodward must cringe when this gets mentioned
Not Crazy Like You Think - a documentary on a patient's self-help group for
people recovering from abuse by the psychiatric zealots
Other films I would have liked to show include:
Mine own executioner
Nineteen Nineteen (by Hugh Brody)
David & Lisa
Husbands & wives
