Hi Gareth:

There are a good number of books and essays on Derek Jarman. He himself
wrote a number of volumes that shed light on his artistic practices.
DANCING LEDGE, KICKING THE PRICKS, MODERN NATURE, AT YOUR OWN RISK, and
CHROMA to name five. There are also the books DEREK JARMAN: DREAMS OF
ENGLAND (by Michael O'Pray), BY ANGELS DRIVEN (Chris Lippard, ed) and
DEREK JARMAN: A PORTRAIT (by Roger Wollen), each of which is useful. There
are, at this point, a good number of essays, too, like: "Gardening,
History, and the Escape from Time: Derek Jarman's MODERN NATURE" in the
journal OCTOBER, vol 89, "AIDS, The Problem of Representation and
Plurality in Derek Jarman's BLUE" in SOCIAL TEXT 52/53, a good one in the
book FIRES WERE STARTED: BRITISH CINEMA AND THATCHERISM (I can't off hand
remember the title, it's something like "Private Lives/Public Health"),
one on his TEMPEST, ANGELIC CONVERSATION and EDWARD II in SHAKESPEARE'S
QUEER CHILDREN by Kate Chedgzoy and one on the film THE LAST OF ENGLAND in
the book BETWEEN THE SHEETS, IN THE STREETS: QUEER, LESBIAN, AND GAY
DOCUMENTARY.

Hope that helps. Good luck.
