I haven't seen _Somewhere in the Night_ (1946), but on page 189 of John
Belton's _American Cineman/American Culture_ (1994), in the chapter on
noir, there's a still from that film that shows John Hodiak, playing an
amnesiac war vet, looking out a hotel window (part of sign visible) at
night--whether it's raining I can't tell, no venetian blinds, and what's on
the soundtrack I can't say. But hey, it sure looks like an iconic noir
moment!
